Intelligent ECU

I've read many posts about how the Mini ECU "learns" over time, but what exactly does it learn? ...to get better gas mileage? ...the best way to make the engine run more efficiently? What?

It "learns" how much fuel to add. It's called fuel trim, and if the O2 sensor senses that your car is running rich or lean, it'll compensate by shortening or lengthening the injector on time. It really has no effect on performance, but I guess you can say it tries to make the engine run more efficiently. it basically tries to maintain a set a/f ratio.

This isn't specifically just for MINIs, all cars have it nowdays.

My MINI is pretty good with trigonometry, geometry, and calculus,
but it can't do partial differential equations nor principles of mathematical analysis
worth a crap.

You know whats funny ... I was thinking about solving simultaneous differential equations while typing and thought hell .... stupid MINI will never get that!

Derive? As in equations?

Yep, you got it! However, I didn't mean to go off on a tangent...I guess it's a sine of my age...

It's hard for me to figure, what is your angle? If you have to air your differences, stop fueling around and summarize yur arguments.
