what is the official ECU re-set procedures?

Hi all,

i have just installed a 15% pulley and a cold air intake lately, trying to re-set my ecu, and after my search, i seems to find different version of answers. can anyone point me to the right procedures?

Thanks in advance.

DME Reset is a dealer function...

some claim a battery disconnect does it, but I don't know that for sure.

There are some values that require an actual factory service tool to do.

If it's just adaptation like fuel trim, it will get to the right place no matter where it starts from. Don't worry about it.

Only way I know of resetting the adaptation values is to hook it up to the diagnostic machine.

Not the DME! I have used it tons too, but it doesn't do anything for the ECU.

Believe it or not....

I don't see anything at the MINI2 FAQ that indicates how to reset the OBD codes. Lots of photos of removing the dash...
I was recently told by my service manager to disconnect the battery and discharge any residual energy in the disconnected system by touching the positive and negative leads together. I presume touching the positive lead to the body would also work. I have not done it, so I cannot attest to the veracity of this method. I was also told that it resets the SES light and flushes the code cache, but no other information was provided.
cheers,
phil

Some adaptation values are in flash memory...

but honestly, I don't know which. I'd have to check with some diagnostics that are currently on loan....

There are fuel trims that take into account injector wear, there are also learned values like throttle body limit positions. The TB values are not effected by battery disconnects, and need a factory DME (ECU) reset.

When my diagnostics are back, I can check to see if fuel trims are reset with a battery disconnect, but they will be relearned with just normal driving, so there's no big deal there, and little benefit in resetting them at all!

All the adaptation erasures are done through the GT1/DISplus. At least that's what the instructions say, and it doesn't mention any alternate methods (ie disconnect battery).

obnxs is right about fuel trim. really won't solve anything by resetting it. If your driving habits remain the same, it'll just pretty much go back to its previous fuel trim settings, given nothing else changes.
