Which OBD tool to reset airbag light?

Does anyone know which OBD tools can reset the airbag light and cost if you know it? Also, how much does the dealer charge for this (not under warranty, racing seat instalation, resister installed).

I've looked the past few weeks and the cinclusion I've come to is electrical tape and then dealer. It only takes them a few min. to plugin their comp. and shut it off but they may want to charge you a minimum labor charge (could be .5 to 1hr of labor) so even though I'm under warranty, I'm going to wait til I'm in for something else and then oh by the way could you..

I've heard that the airbags are not functional when the light is on, and the dealer is not near me. I figure I'd rather put the money towards something useful. Anyone else?

the airbags are all functional, just the one thats disconnected isnt.

all the light is telling you is there is a problem with one or more of the airbags.

No OBD-II tool will do this.

It's not an OBD-II function. You need something like the factory service tools, or BiM-COM can do it.

Matt

ps, I have this intermittantly, now it comes back as soon as I clear it! Freaking connectors!

Mine is on as I am taking ALL my airbags out. I want to reset it but a trip to the dealership sucks. Those guys are all money grubbing bastiches. Plus, I heard that BiM-COM will not reset the light for liability reasons.

This is what I thought but had read and benn told otherwise. I wish we had an "official" answer on this to ease my mind. I don't mind the light.

What is Bim-Com?

I called NW MINI and they said that the entire system will not work if the light is on.

I called MINI USA who didnt know but gave me an email address to ask the question.

Seems like a pretty important question to have so 2 opposite answers to.

I hear that it does not work when the light is on and that it does work when the light is on! I have had my light on for a few months (still have the stock seats). This is due to a connector issue. I have not had the time to go to the dealer to have them take care of it and it does not bother me to much. This spring I will take the car in and have them fix a few things, especially the paint problem I am having. Otherwise if the airbags work with the light on, then that is fine with me.

I talked about this with my SA and he said that the system would function normally in the event of a crash, the light indicated that there was simply an issue within the system. He had seen it before, my issue is a loose connector b/w the seat and rest of the sysem so the light has the meaning presumably as your issue. 05 and newer it functions as dumb rather than smart system meaning it will not adjust or shutt off for children or laptop that happen to be in the front seat but will instead act like an airbag on any 02-04 MINI.

I would love to believe this and hope that it is true but am still concerned as I have heard others say otherwise (that none work when the light is on), and my dealer just confirmed this (though dealers can be wrong). Who to believe, who to believe?

I figured the SA knew exactly what was going on when I said the light just came on going around a turn (apperantly a bad batch went through 05 models on the passenger seats) and said it was okay to drive and he had seen the issue before, I also had other confirm their dealers say the same, just wait until oil service then they could fix it. It wont spontaenously deploy, so you could just follow the TVR air bag philosoohy.....Don't crash. It's merely a light telling you all is not perfect and to take the car to get looked at, its like the seat belt light that tells me to buckle up the grocery bag on the mile long journey home, my seat belt still works just fine. Any way it is your call, and you could still conatact some other deaker just to get their opinions on the situation, talk to someone who has delt with the airbag issues before and see wha they say. If you had a problem serious enought to shut off all the airags, you'd have to take the car to the dealer anyway, right?

Bad news, I've had a second confirmation from a MINI Dealer (Portland). Thats 2 for 2 that have said that NONE of the airbags will function when the light is on.

How bout you give that ***** up! It's about time Ross-tech releases a viable copy. It's been like a decade and they don't reply to the yahoo group anymore.

Same here, and the dealer said it was okay to keep going for thousands of miles!! I'm finding these SA less and less helpful
