Lug pattern and offset of Mini wheels????
Hi all! I'm new here. I really like the new Mini S. Even tho I haven't driven it yet, it sounds like it's an awesome handling, quick car, which is exactly what i"m looking for. I have a question on the wheels. Anyone know what the lug pattern is (4x100, 4x114.3, etc.)? And also what the offset is? Thanks very much.
Moved to Beneath the Bonnet since this is a great techie question. This is also of great interest to those of us that have interest in autocrossing the COOPER in a SCCA SOLO II stock class.
Ok, spoke to the guys at Mini Mania (they're really nice guys...ended up talking to one of them for a while about Mini mods). Anyways, the PCD is 4x100. He's not sure what the stock ET is, but depending on width of wheel, tire size, and lowering amount, any offset between +37 to +50 will work. The most recommended size is 16x7 and 17x7 and for those, +40 to +45 is good. If you go wider, you'll need a lower offset, maybe about +37 as to not rub the suspension. Coilovers may alleviate this since the springs on coilovers will be smaller than the stock springs. Stock Cooper S wheels are 16x6.5. HTH.
Oh, BTW, for those familiar w/ Hondas, any wheel that fits a civic/integra will fit the new Mini's (same PCD and ET). This is a big plus in broadening the wheel selections for Mini's as many wheel companies are Honda-centric.
So.... I want to put OZ SUPERLEGGERA 17x7 inch wheels on my Mini Cooper S. Wrapped around these light-boys I want to put 215/40-17 S-03's. I am checking to offset with OZ now, but other that offset issues does anyone see any problems with this small bump in width?
Just for the record, does anyone know the maximum tire sizes for 16 and 17 inch wheels?
Thanks
Scott.

As long as the OZ's offset are ok, the additional 0.5" width of the wheel won't matter. What's more important is the tire size. From the info the Mini Mania guys gave me, it would seem that 215's may be too wide and you may have issues w/ rubbing the springs. If you got coilovers, that will most likely alleviate any inside rubbing as coilover springs are much smaller in diameter than stock. I'd stick w/ 205's to be safe. Oh, also, just another option if you're interested in wheels...Centerline makes some very nice forged, ultralight wheels. Their 17x7 weighs only 13lbs!! that's one of the lightest 17's I know of, long w/ Volk CE28's. Also, if you're interested, I can get Volk GT-series wheels...check out http://www.volkracing.co.jp for some pics. HTH.
Check out "The Wheel and Tyre Bible" on the net. It has all the calculations for sizing, even how much it will change the speedometer reading, depending what size tires you run.

Along the same vein, I am wondering what make and model donut spares can be used on my MINI S. In as much as the car came with run-flats and no spare (maybe no jack for all I know), my wife is paranoid about traveling on conventional tires with no spare. She went ballistic when she realized that was the case on our way to MOTD (when the low tire pressure warning lit). From the above thread, I infer that maybe a Civic's spare would work. want to know for what to ask at a wrecking yard. Thanks
