I don't know the specs, but it is the same as most any BMW if you are trying to match up with an aftermarket part. . . .

Nah, I'm actually trying to find an easy way to cut a hole in my M7 grill for the hook. Since the mounting base is a bit behind the grill, it's hard to line up where to cut. I was going to go to the hardware store and get a short bolt and screw it in with the bumper removed. Then, remount the bumper so the bolt is nearly flush with the grill so I know exactly where to cut.

Good luck finding one at a local hardware store. I went to a dedicated bolt shop and they said that this looked very specialty to them and that they would not have anything like it.

Would be interested to know if you find one!

Since your goal is to create a marking guide, maybe you could cheat and use a wooden dowel. Then you can use all sorts of methods to make it fit. Tape to make it fatter, sandpaper to make it thinner.

Ok. I'll try that if I can't find a bolt of the right thread

Correct, very custom thread. I have researched this before for something else. You will not find a bolt to fit it. Only something custom made at that diameter and those threads per inch can be used.

Wooden dowel is a great idea for what you have to do.

dont even bother... I looked into it for about 2 months... I talked with about 4 different shops... the ONLY thing that you can do is get 1 made on a lathe but even that is close... not exact

if you want more info about it let me know and Ill go back and look it up as well as i can.
