Hi - just wonderig any brand of engine oil is ok for the mini when doing oil change , as long as it is 5w-30 fully synthetic.

Is there much of a difference b/w say mobile 1, casterol gtx etc etc??

Castrol GTX is not a synthetic. It is Dinosaur residue.

MINI reccomends Castrol Syntec. Not a true Sythetic, hence the name

Mobil 1 Synthetic is what it says it is.

Most folks use either Castrol Syntec or Mobil 1 Synthetic.

Thought there are a few who run Red Line, Amsoil, and Deep Purple.

yes, there are differences.. however, the differences in base stock and additives are there to achieve the same goal--protection against friction, wear, shear, etc... mobile 1 is excellent.. castro is good too. (the best is redline, only because of its base stock and additive package..)

check out www.bobistheoilguy.com

they have full explainaitons for most oil questions..

GOT MOLY?

Joker,

Since you just brought up Redline for the crankcase, maybe you could advise which of their crankcase gearoils to use with a MINI '05 LSD?
