help electrical problems?
i was driving along hit a large pot hole and lost the speedo and use of the head lights took to the dealer and he siad because i have lower springs he wouldnt warranty it ran a check and it points to a loose ground some where he wanted 100 per hour to find minimum 5 hours any help would be great
Time to get a second opinion from another dealership. I could understand their finger pointing if all the airbags were deployed, suspension torn off & half the car was missing. Bulletin; ECUs may fail if operated too close to the ground. Voiding the warranty ofcorse.
I wish i could help, but, if you are in the detroit area, there is only one dealership. it is bull crap for the dealer to charge 100 bucks an hour as their rate is 65 an hour.. hmm... I'll see what I can find out for you..
.
now they are replacing the ecm and told me he has already spent 6 hours and an other 3 to replace the ecm this now is really starting to add up $1100 for ecm 9 hours@$100 im looking at a bill of over 2 grand and he wants to replace both lights and speedo this is unreal! on a new car
not too unreal.....Classic Scumbags, oops i meant BMW MINI, charged me $437.82 to tell me mt brake pedal switch needed replacing.....

this is really starting to tick me off
now the ship says the ecm isnt bad and they replaced it , to be on the safe side and still cant find out whats wrong and its going on 12 days there. are these guys techs or just robotic parts replacers
Most dealerships (not just MINI / BMW) don't diagnose anymore - they have software and diagnostic processes in the FSMs that do the troubleshooting for you - the end result is simply replacing parts or system components. It is especially frustrating when you know what something *isn't* but the tech and/or service writer insist that it is simply because a particular error code showed up on a OBDII scan or symptom fell into their "troubleshooting" guidelines.
I guess that since most repairs now are "by the book" they don't care about fixing stuff... if the book says 3 hours for a headlamp replacement, that's what will be on the invoice - even if the tech did it in 45 minutes. EZ money.
