Window help!
Would anyone know why a passenger side window would suddenly stop working? I checked out the fuses but they are fine and when I close the door it dosen't do it's "auto adjust" thing. Any ideas?
I remember when I got them tintes the guy talking about how he has to "lock" them so they don't do the "auto adjust" but I don't know what he did or if I did it by mistake. I looked for child window locks and didn't see one and also tried my remote thinking maybe I hit the buttons in such a way to put it in a special mode. No luck.
I have autocross nationals this weekend and getting my window down is huge ( Helps to look out the window better and to hear tire noise). Plus I can't wash my car becuase it is slightly cracked at the top and water gets in.
Thanks! Trinityblk

Is it hot where you are? (95 degrees or more)
If so, open the door and give the door panel a good thump with the base of your fist, right above the speaker grill... not ON the grill, but 4 or 5 inches higher up the door.
For some reason the MINIs window motors tend to sieze up in the heat and a thump brings 'em back (temporarily... complain to your dealer to try and get the motor replaced).
If it works, I bet the problem will dissapear as soon as the weather cools.

If you are still under warranty, go to the dealer and make them fix it.
It happened to mine, too. I don't know what the problem was, though it hasn't occurred since.
good luck

I've also had it happen. Replaced under warranty, my SA explained it as a malfunctioning window motor. The dealer immediately replaced both, even though the driver side window had shown no problems. Months later, the driver side window was jerking as I rolled it up, and the dealer once again replaced both motors! Makes you think this may be a common issue.
Every time I think my MINI has a unique problem, not only does someone have it here, but they have a suggested fix as well!
About a week ago, my drivers side window died. I did not get the chance to deal with it right away, and a day or two later it started working again. The weather was very hot at the time, so "seizing up" just might be it. Next time I will try giving it a good whack! That always makes me feel better!

So, I get into the Mini this morning to come to work and my driver's window won't roll down! I tried restarting the car, flicking the switch up and down, holding it down for awhile....nothing. I'll give the door a thump when I go home for lunch and I'll report back.

Umkay, so I just got off the phone with Pat (SA @ Niello Mini Sac/CA) and he said this window motor failure is a fairly common Mini Cooper issue. I have a Saturday morning appointment for the dealership to replace the motor. This way I can roll my windows down at the drive-through and not have to do the "reach around the open door/window" thing.
negative experience getting my windoz fixed
So I picked my car up from the stealership today, I had the 25k service done and I also mentioned in my appt setting that I'd like both window motors/regulators replaced as the heat is having a rather negative effect on my driving pleasure. No one likes driving a MINI with the windows up, noone!
Well, I made sure the SA knew this when I dropped the car off. I asked if this was a common occurrence (already knowing that was the case) and he said that it was and they could fix it.
Well, I get my little sheet detailing their work and I see the worst words I can imagine,
" WHEN HOT OUSTIDE, WINDOWS WILL NOT GO DOWN
M TEST OPERATION-ALL WORKING NORMAL AT THIS
TIME, COULD NOT DUPLICATE CONDITION"
No **** they could not duplicate, this occurs when the car sits outside in the 90+ heat all day. Its been between 70 and 80 this week and the car was worked on after sitting outside all night (which it does not do at home mind you), the car isn't near hot enough.
Was this just a misunderstanding between the SA and me? Or were they being extra difficult? I have to drive an hour each way for all my service and now I feel like I just might have to drive even longer in the future.
I obviously complained and he was apologetic but that doesn't get me working windows! I asked if the problems generally get worse, and he indicated that "although its not normally a good thing, it is good for you that the windows get worse" I was advised that they could not fix my problem until it became more prevalent, does that sound logical to you? Lets role play:
me: My car is broken
Advisor: Car looks good to me, but I believe you. Its a noted and known problem
me: Then fix it
Advisor: Eh, I'll just wait till it gets worse... You look like the kind of guy who enjoys wasting a 4hrs of boring highway driving. Come back when your car is extra extra broken.
Obviously, these were not the exact words exchanged but my personal feelings afterwards. Any ideas? Tomorrow I'm calling the manager, it seems to be the only way to get my way (loaner car issue from before)

Incorporated the "Thump" technique. Window works fine, now....glad to see the search funtion on this forum will find all possible solutions to problems that these cars have. One question...is this the authorized facotyr fix, or are there replacement window actuators available that do not misbehave in the heat?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I also had to have the motor replaced for my driver's side window. My problem happened in the very very cold weather. Sometimes that side wouldn't go up right when I closed the door--I had to lower it a little and raise it after closing the door. Or I would have to close that door with my hand gently on the window to make sure it went into place correctly. Also, for a weekend or so when I was out of town my husband couldn't get the window down at all.
It was under warranty.
