Break in blues....

Well my JB MCS landed on american soil yesterday in Charleston (7/20). Im planning on installing a few mods before I go off to college on the 18th of August. I have exactly 22 days from today till my August 14th Pulley Party date where Ill be getting an Alta CAI, Millitek catback, Unichip, IK22s, and an M7 16% pulley. Heres my problem/question: How important do you guys feel the "break in period" is. IMO I think it is better to be safe than sorry so I'm going to take it easy. But, do you guys think it would be ok to still get the mods done on the car even though it still be might be in the break in period? Thanks in advance!

Don't know about mods...

as I don't believe in them, but that's likely old foggyitis. As for the breakin period I followed it. Why? Because the mfr recommended it. That's the only logical and common sense reason I need.

Good luck at school.

I would check and see what all those mods will do to the warranty.

I'll tell you what I did. I put about 2000miles on my car before I installed a pulley, wires and plugs. But at about 500miles I already had a CAI and ecu retuned. I tried to follow the break-in period and take it easy on the car the first 1200 miles. But what I can tell you putting miles on the car before modding told me is how good the car was prior to modding. So I had a 'baseline' if you will and know what the mods then gave me.

I understand you go back to school and probaly won't have time or $ for mods then so your choices aren't easy. I'm also a college student and planned my summer well I think. New car and tons of mods

The question you need to be asking yourself or others on this list is:

"How important is your warranty"

If it's not that important "mod away"

Not so... I've been looking into this as I will be taking the aftermarket route for some performance options. Obviously, there are some mods that don't affect anything such as exhaust, intake, lighter wheels, etc...
The pulley is where things get tricky. The dealer can get you with the pulley install if they can prove it was the fault of the problem. HOWEVER, There are aftermarket performance companies that WILL cover the warranty repair if mini denies it.
Mini-maini is one and I believe Webb motorsports does the same. You are covered for the FULL warranty period or 24 months if the warranty is over.
So for the modders who seek aftermarket parts, there is a way to get the same performance without spending big $$$ and you get to keep your warranty...

I will be going the WebbMotorsports route. I like their warrenty better than MINI Mania's because if you are still under the factory warranty WMS will extend their 2 year/24k miles warranty throughout the duration of your factory warranty. Since my car will be brand new, Ill have a 4 year 50k miles warrenty on his parts.

Come on man its a MINI there is no GOOD reason you should still be in your break-in period 21 days from now. Start driving man. The sooner you are out of break-in the sooner you can have REAL fun.

I would wait till at least till after it is broken in before I start modding it. As for the warranty, it will not void the warranty. Now if that part was directly responsible for damaging the engine or another part, then it would. But unless the supercharger blows up or you suck up water from the intake, you should have nothing to worry about. Most dealers will even put a new pully on for you for about 100-200 bucks depending on the experience of the person installing it and the time it takes them. If you get someone who has done it before and is pretty experienced it shouldn't take longer than 30-45 min. Keep us posted and good luck.
