Water Temp. Sending Unit Help Plz
I've seen write ups on Boost gauge installs and Oil temp/pressure installs, but i couldn't find any on a Water Temp Gauge...
Here's where I need your help...
I've seen pics of the sending unit installed in front of the intercooler. I plan on using an Auto Meter Ultra Lite... Anyone know if the included sending unit is a direct drop in or is some modification needed to the rad hose itself. Do you have to cut the Rad hose? or do you remove/unscrew that "little black cap looking thingy" and simply install it there? Is there another sending unit I should look for that will fit better?
Thanks for your time
Mikey

Auto Meter water temp sensor
Auto meter makes water temp sensor adaptors. I used it on my mini. Comes with a grounding wire and two hose couplers. I took out the bleeder hose fitting (The part mentioned below) and replaced it with the Auto Meter part. They make two sizes 1 1/2 inch and 1 1/4 inch. The Mini will use the 1/1/4. It will run you about $25 from JEGS or Summit. Make sure your temp sensor does not touch the intercooler you will need to wrap the sensor in tape or something else. I used a inch of rubber hose to isolate the sensor from the intercooler.

Somethings up with the gauge...
Thanks for your help guys... The sender and gauge are installed...
but now i have a problem.. maybe its in my wiring or something.
As soon as i start the car.. the gauge's needle pegs past 250 and never moves. I followed the instructions and also grounded the sender as Randy said.
Do ya think I have a bad gauge or sending unit?

So after wading through this admittedly short thread, I do not see for a fact whether or not the sending unit simply screws into the vent screw. Is it this simple? I soldered a pigtail onto the body of the sending unit for ground. The fit appears to be near perfect, except I would love to put a nylon washer on it (I will look for one tomorrow. Autometer ultralite, BTW. Thanks!
