Windshield trim blown off.

Has anyone had the rubber trim strip on the top edge of the windshield blown off?

My wife lost ours the other day. The dealer states the window should not leak but can't get us in until Tuesday to repair/replace it.

We have to go out of town this weekend so hopefully all will be well.

Yes - it has been an on-going issue since the 02' models rolled off the assembly line. Easy fix by the dealer which is the good news...

Mine has been missing since yesterday, the body shop forgot to order it and put it on. It'll be here tomorow. I can verify that the actual seal is under the trim, it's just for looks. It's been raining here non-stop for days.

Yup! My 04 MC had it the day I purchased it. Half of it came out and started to wiggle like a tall.

Mine came off shortly after taking delivery. The dealer used some sort of epoxy to keep it in place, it hasn’t been a problem since.

Most likely it was not epoxy, but silicone.

Never had this problem.

I am beginning to think my 3 MINIs were built in a secret lab somewhere in the Nevada desert, because none of them have had these weird faults.

Side windshield trim blew off

Didn't have that exact problem but I was driving down the road and the black plastic post piece on the driver's side blew off. After some investigating, I figured out when my windshield was replaced, the idiot installer just broke the trim piece off instead of removing the 4 screws hidden behind the rubber molding on each side. Then just snapped it back into place hoping I wouldn't see it.

Sure enough. I didn't see it and by the time the trim flew off a few months later, I can't prove he did it.

So beware if you have your windshield replace by other than the MINI Dealer. Make sure they know to remove the screws. The trim piece is $50

Mine are from the same lab, C4... no cracks despite several gravel or stone attacks, no flaps or other parts flying off and none of the other whine hot buttons. I dont mean others misfortune with broken parts ect. is not legit so please dont haul out the flamethrowers but I did slip on my nomex drawers.

I certainly did encounter this problem too. First time, the trim would peel back at highway speeds into a U-shape (both ends were still in place)...i could usually just fit it back in. Finally one end of the weatherstripping came completely out, so I brought it into the dealership. They too used some sort of epoxy, but it showed. The strip was bumpy and not as perfectly installed as one would like it to be. I dealt with it for a few months, but the epoxy lost its "oomph" and the stripping came out at highway speeds once again. This time, the dealer obviously replaced the entire strip, and it looks better than the first day I got it! No problems since.

Definitely keep an eye on it, because you don't want one end to come free and start to smack the top of your roof! It happened to me, and I had to quickly pull over.

Mine is coming up in the middle.I asked my MA and he said that MINI has a replacement with different design but the windshield has to come out.I guess the inside edge goes underneath the windshield so it doesn't lift anymore. There is a thread on here somewhere about this.

Mine did it after getting windshield replaced

I had my windshield replaced after a huge rock busted it. The glass replacement company didn't seal it very well and I noticed a whipping noise on the interstate. I got out to see it was coming loose from the center and slowly pulling out. I pulled it out completely and the glass replacement company came to my office to fix it. No problems since then.

Mine just came off the other day, and I'm wondering, because I don't have a dealer near me - is this something I can purchase and replace myself?

Yes this is DIY, you just need the trim piece. My dealer has this in stock, I think around $40. I have replaced it twice due to damage from rocks.

Is this something that I need to go to the dealer for, or can I get it through a parts store?
