Battery Service?

I'm many miles away from a dealer and wondered if the battery needs distilled water. My MINI is a year old. Other batteries in other vehicles need some attention occasionally. I live in AZ and the air is dry and somewhat warm at times.
Has anyone had any experience with this? The battery is all sealed up with a sticker on top like it will never need anything, but there is a little vent hose out the side that tells me it is a regular lead-acid battery and not a sealed gel type. Unless you keep the plates covered with water/acid the battery won't charge and it dies. My BMW motorcycle battery has done this and so has a battery in another vehicle. They need regular care with juice!

I've sent out similar battery service questions before and received the exact response you have (nada). I'll ask the service folks at my next dealer visit - probably in 2 weeks for the 25,000 mile service.
