Helix MINIsports 19% pulley & Install Review

Well, I would like to start out in saying thanks to Eric at Helix MINIsports (PA). I have been reading up on pulley reductions for the past couple of months and was unsure if I should do it or not. Read many different opinions and technical information about the reductions and the differences between 15%, 17% and 19%. I wanted to spice up my MINI a bit because I wasn’t too happy with the minimal power off the line under 3,000 RPM. Always felt like the car was going to stall out. So I needed to find a solution to my dilemma. Few days ago I gave Helix MINIsports a call to see if they would do a pull reduction for me. Sure enough after speaking to Eric, he told me to bring the car in later that afternoon.

After I have arrived, I was greeted and told to pull into the shop. I spoke to Eric for a bit about the reductions and decided to go with a 19%. I watch through out the entire install as he did it in about 40 Minutes (Even though I kept talking and stalling him, ahahaha) He definitely made the job look like a breeze. And I thought I would have been able to do it. There was a lot more work then I have anticipated. I am sure glad he did the work.

Any Further work I am expecting to do on my MINI, I will be back at Helix MINIsports. I was happy with the way I was treated, they are very friendly people, and the install was flawless and everything works perfect.
On the other hand the Helix MINIsports 19% reduction pulley was a great investment, well worth the money and the time. My 2nd Gear pulls like my 1st , 3rd gear is absolutely incredible. But the best part is while on the highway in 6th gear I can still pull ahead of traffic without having to downshift. Gas mileage stayed the same for me around 25 MPG city/highway.

I definitely recommend Helix MINIsports for all your motoring needs.

Once again thanks Eric, for the great work! :D

I agree with you. Eric installed my 17% pulley last week wednesday 5/18 and i was totally satisfied with the work. I am going back sometime in July to do the Borla race. He is a really cool guy to talk to and does not hesistate to answer any questions you may have. I recommend him as well.

It was a fair price for the type of work for the 19% he charged $406 and some change, which in my opinion is fair.

Any concerns about belt problems with the 19%? I have heard through reliable sources the 19 can cause problems with out modifying the tensioner.
