Weird intake

I sold my Alta intake to a fellow NAM member about 2 weeks ago, installed the stock intake to wait to get my AGS.

Now for the WEIRD part. I had to put back the stock intake. I just put the filter cover, the filter, the throttle pipe, and the small spout pipe off the throttle pipe.

I left the silencer horn off, and the plastic piece that goes behind the stock intake box off.

I have been driving for about 10 days now. The car is faster than with the Alta intake. I used my Gtech autometer (i know its not the most accurate...but just for reference).

With the Alta: i had 5 runs with HP readings from 199-204 (this was back in Jan. 05).
With the stock intake (installed as listed above): 5 runs with HP readings at 210-214.

Can anyone explain this?!?!

I have the following on my car: 15% pulley, UUC exhaust, & MTH software.

before people get mad at my numbers, as i said Gtech is not very very accurate, but just for reference. Though some people swear by them

How many miles on the car when you did the first series? How many now? Maybe the engine has 'loosened up'?
I assume there aren't any other variables you haven't called out.
Different gasoline?? Wind conditions? Weight loss?
Tires significantly worn (i.e. lower gearing)?

10HP seems like a lot for an intake - especially going from CAI to stock!!
Almost worth throwing the ALTA back on and doing back to back runs...

Winterized gas could account for a small difference, maybe not 10, but who knows.

My car is currently at 46,007 miles. In january my car was at about 37,000 miles. Its a 2003 MCS. I have been using Chevron since i got the car. Same Weight. I live in central valley CA, wind conditions not too much of a factor. No weight loss in me or the car. Same tires. normal wear from the miles, to have lower gearing as a result of tire wear? Probably not possible as i would be on bald tires or on the rim.

Another thing i like about the intake now. The sound. I think the alta grew on me. but i dont miss it

Hope that helps. Has anyone done what i did? if so what are your results?
