Opinions on replacing the air filter.

I have an '05 MCC with 7k miles on it. Will I see any benefit if I was to replace the air filter with one of the drop in panel filters either from K&N, or ITG?

Or should I wait for a K&N Typhoon type intake to come out? None are available at this time, but I am keeping my fingers crossed. K&N just came out with a drop in filter this week, so I am hoping a short air intake is soon to follow.

Any opinions?

I would only use factory filter or a cone-type.

drop-in filters does next to nothing especially when the factory filter
is pretty good from the beginning.

What kenchan said is very true. I put a K&N panel in my '02 MCS and noticed no difference in torque. The only advantage for a K&N (I figure) has to be that it is cleanable and reusable, but is fairly expensive just for that feature. I will not "K&N" my '05 MCSC. Don't see the need.

a possibility.

You might want to contact Peter from MyMini who is working on an enclosed box with TGI cone type filter. I don't think its out just yet and I don't know what years it will fit but would assume he is addressing 05. He also has the TGI replacement filters so you could talk to him about results.

I have his CAI and I like it very much but would be interested myself in an enclosed box that draws air from standard source as well as vent while being enclosed and keeping out any/all under the hood air.

Good luck on your quest.

I installed the ITG filter from MYMINI. I talked with Peter and researched the filters, the ITG offers the most for the money. Better than paper and better than K&N.
