front end vibration
front end vibration
4,983 beautiful miles motored, and my MINI and I have come upon our first problem: what started out as a mild steering wheel vibration less than a month ago has turned into an entire front end vibration. I first noticed it after being away from it for a long weekend, so I wasn't really sure if it was different or not, just a minor steering wheel vibration. Then I noticed my side view mirrors vibrating as well. Now I feel it through my legs on the floor panel and pedals.
Now, the weird thing about my vibration is that it is only when I am stopped. I know this for sure because there is a slight sound associated with it that begins along with the vibration just as soon as i roll to a stop. This entire time I have been fooling around with tire pressure, thinking it had to be my tires. But if it's not speed dependant, it couldn't have anything to do with the tires, right? Does anyones have any ideas? Should I be calling my dealer ASAP?
Thanks in advance,
Nicole

Sounds like Breaks.I would have someone look at that.
I have a problem similar to this but it's when i get about 45mph. It feels like wheels out of balance but i had it check and no. Knauz said it was alingment and tires. I had both looked at there fine.

yeah, I don't really think it's the brakes at >5000 miles. Also, I can put it into neutral and take my foot off the brake pedal and it's exactly the same. I can actually see the center part of my steering wheel vibrating slightly.
I notice a very slight vibration (close to 7K miles) when stopped as well, and my first thought was motor mounts, since I had a Saturn that had bad motor mounts.
How can you tell if they are bad? What does "normal" look like?

Sorry for the late respones. It was the Wheels Lug Nuts. The After market wheels i have are 17 and so the lugs didnt put enough presure on the hub to keep it from wobbling. We put on ET lugs and that fixed it. The Lugs set in further and keep the wheel from wobbleing on the hub.
