05 Supercharger in 03 MCS??

Hi all:

Does anyone know if a supercharger in a 2005 fit my 2003? What about other years? I'm assuming they are all interchangeable or am I wrong in my assumptions. I'm just curious.

thanks

Should just be a bolt-on. Biggest change between 2003-2005 SC is the coating. Standard coating for the JCW kit SC is now used on all MCS chargers. Not the case in previous years, accounts for the slight HP bump on 2005 MCS.

Cheers,
matthew Z.

Ahhhh.. I'm glad it's a straight bolt-on.. Sweet...so if I do get the 2005, will I get some HP bump w/o flashing the DME??

thanks

I think you can, but you would also have to change and get a 05 Intake runner that goes from the TB to the Supercharger and the 05 intake hose that come from the filter housing. I just found out about those pieces and you can bet I will be looking further into it.

yeah, don't worry. The newer design might be well worth the search.

I'm gonna call my local parts dept. today.

The question I have burning in me is WHY?
It isn't going to give you much of a performance boost. The 05 exhaust probably counts for a few of the extra 5 HP the 05's got. For the price there are many other things you could do.

Im not looking for a power increase from this updated part, but I think having it will increase the potential for power down the line with things like a pulley upgrade, intake, etc. Have you seen the updated piece?

"power down the line"

gearing also affects it. According to Mini, they changed tha ratios for that purpose. What you are attempting to do, reminds me of my Honda days. You can do all the the bolt-ons you can afford, but it will never compared to doing the internals.

I believe the most noticeable change between the pre-04 MCS and the 05 MCS that benefited off-the-line acceleration is the gearing. While the minor power gain from other components can be beneficial, the added hp doesn't contribute as much at the lower RPM as the short gearing, which accounts for the faster acceleration of the 05 models.

Hey guys, I got to look at the newer intake system on an 05 a little closer the other day. Compared to my 02's, the newer piece is actually longer with a 90 degree bend right after the TB....not to impressed anymore. The crimp that mine has on it is def. not on the newer one, so that's a good thing.
Anyway, it could still be a better design than the pre 05's, but we have to find out still.

Maybe someone with a 05 can pull that piece off and get us a pic.
