Service yet?

My dealer told me to come back when at 10K. My '05 Cooper just turned 5K. Is an oil change recommended?

This has been discussed on many, many threads. It is a personal decision. MINI will only provide service when the indicator says it is due. Many people decide to have someone change the oil (or change it themselves) in between the scheduled services. That is a decision that you will need to make. Do a search on "oil changes" and you will find lots of opinions and advice.

Yup, it boils down to personal choice though Mini does suggest that under certain conditions more frequent changes are indicated. Since I live on a twisting dirt road I figure my lifestyle qualifies as one of those conditions.

Contrary to Boondox...

the count down on your mini's dash display is supposed to take into account the type of driving your putting your mini through so that it may actually count down faster to zero than your odometer shows.

Me? I'll just wait till the counter nears zero then set up an appointment. I'm fairly certain if you read your warranty booklet you'll find this is all covered and if you can't trust the mfr(besides the problems some have) then you may as well toss the book and change the oil yourself. Have fun.

What do they do in service

Don't mean to hijack this thread, since you're on the service subject and I have 3K more to go before the first service, just wonder any one can tell me what do they do exactly in a service? Will they be changing spark plugs too? I have just installed with IK22 plugs, just wonder they will replace those and throw away mine.

Thanks.

The service schedule book has a complete list of what they SHOULD do in the service. Mainly it is an oil and filter change, replace cabin air filter and then check alot of things. Spark plug replacement is not part of it.
