Annoying vibration after installing Milltek Cat Back Exhaust

Since I installed the Milltek Cat Back exhaust. at certain low RPMs the rear of the car vibrates very loudly. It seems like the vibration is worst when the engine is cold - once warmed up, the vibration disappears. Everything appears tight on the exhaust.

I think it might be the heat shields that cover the gas tank and the rear bumber itself that is vibrating.

Anyone else have a similiar issue?

Be nice to figure out how to eliminate this problem.

I would put the car on ramps and go under there and see exactly where it's rubbing or vibrating. (put the car on ramps and let it sleep over night,
fire her up in the morning).

My '05 did that with the initial installation of the Milltek. Mine was also worse when the engine was cold, though it never went completely away. Chad at Detroit Tuned diagnosed it as rubbing against the heat shield that's in about the center of the car. When he removed the shield, there was obviously paint worn away at the spot where it was touching. Chad bent the shield a bit at that spot and that fixed it. He took some pictures of it, too; if he sees this, maybe he can post them. Maybe yours is rubbing elsewhere but, on mine at least, that was the only spot where the exhaust was able to make contact.

Love the Milltek, btw, and I'm sure you will, too, once this small problem is cleared up.

There's a flange between the midpipe and the rear section that didn't
clear the heatshield on mine too. I just tapped the sheild upward during
the install. no rattles, no noise.

From what I have been finding, every Milltek has been a bit of a challenge, but the sweet sounds and HP are worth every bit of it. I find they fit a bit different on each car, cooper or cooper s. and even after some times going over the whole system it still has a rattle only to find a over looked spot. So now that I have installed 10 of them I feel I have found most places it could be rubbing. I find some times the pipe likes to hug the drivers side wall a bit and the welded hanger on the center pipe can hit the heat shield. Or the pipe hits the black plate on the bottom. With any product there are production variances, so no two systems are a like, but they come close. With out being there and hearing it, it’s hard to say what is wrong, but if it is in the pipe, as it can happen from time to time. You can get a new one (lifetime warranty) and have it changed out with out too much problem.

Great info folks! Thanks. I'll be getting under the car and checking it out as soon as the snow melts!
