Compressed Air

Anyone have any ideas on how to get 5-10 CFM at 10-40 or so PSI of compressed, either off of the engine rotation or electrically compressed?

I've got an idea, but I need some air flow...

How about a compressor for air lift kits?

That's not a bad idea....

The requirements have changed. If I can get 20 PSI at 1 CFM to 60 PSI and 2 CFM, I can make this work.

How much air do you need? I'm currently experimenting with an air horn powered by a CO2 Paintball tank and low pressure regulator.

There are lots of small 12v heavy cycle compressors that will fill tanks with air (for air brakes and horns). They may not get the flow you want directly and you might need a tank (kinda big for a MINI).

Heh! I've read the AGS thread. No hype without some numbers!

Anyway, I need a mere 1 CFM at 20 PSI minimum, and I think I can make it work. I'll need to research some, but if anyone has any specifications on a 100% duty 12V compressor that will do this, please let me know!

Ok, if anyone has a spare 100% duty cycle air ride suspension compressor lying around, can I borrow it?

Or at least some good deals?

A compressor meant for an airbrush may work but one big enough will be bulky. They are also expensive.

Ain't much help, but I tried...

Pick up a street rod or Truckin magazine. About every other page has 12v compressors for air bag suspension setups. Probably will have to add a resivour tank to maintain constant pressure and not run the compressor all the time.

I agree, the best idea so far is the air ride compressor. maybe power it using the 12v power supply in the boot? once again, what is ur project? I'm also thinking of an air horn...how do I do that?

The killer is...

you want this psi at constant output right....100% duty cycle? That's going to be tuff to do cheap. Most air compressors bring something up to X psi then shut down.

Duty cycle is based on 10 min. 20% duty cycle is 2 min out of 10. Or in other words, run 2 min rest (cool for 8). A 100% duty cycle pump is gonna be killer. Most air pumps - e.i. air shocks - bring the system up to pressure and shut down. Until there's a loss everything is off. (Just went thru this in painful detail as I searched for a MIG welder .... my classic needs body work...classics ALWAYS need body work)

So, what's the project? I presume you are not interested in a storage tank in the boot......

air horn kits avail for under $50...duty cycle is below 10%.....

p.s. had air horns for a while. Cheapo's just don't last. Replaced with GOOD electric horns. I agree air is sweet and the sound is cool....put it is a ***** when you push the button and nothing happens.

That happened too often after low cost air horns were about a year old....and always when I NEEDED the horn, not just being cute.
