Remote key not working
Remote key not working
Just traded in my '04 for an '05 and installed the aux input, a 12 volt source for accessories, and Ian's auto-up circuit. All of this stuff came out of my '04 and there were no problems and it all works fine now. Now my remote key does not work. I'm not sure the key problem coincided exactly with my work though. It starts the car ok and all the locks work fine from the switch panel but neither key remote works. I know the keys have to be recharged in the ignition but the car is only 3 days old, they shouldn't have discharged this quickly, and they will both start the car. 200 miles to my dealer so I'm not inclined to make a special trip there just for this at the moment. I plan to look over the fuse box when I get home from work this morning to see if I can find something there as I did blow one lighter fuse while installing this stuff. Any ideas?
Hi I've an 04, so this might not apply, but in the manual, there is a page on initializing the remote key...if you had to disconnect the battery for a while, you may need to do this:
this was in my 04 manual under "keys"
1) press the unlock button or the lock button 4 times in succession....presumably do this near the car although it doesn't say
or
2) briefly turn on the car, then turn the key off 1/2 way so leaving the car in #2 position.....then within 10 seconds, press the unlock button, then press the lock button
3) cross your fingers....oops, that should be #1 I guess

Well, the '05 manual doesn't have anything about resetting the keys that I have found but I tried what the '04 manual said to no avail. Keys still don't work and I haven't found a fuse either. Help anyone?
The dealer...

If all else fails...
...Then drive the 200 miles to the dealer and enjoy the ride...
Do a google search....
I think Mini2 had a sequence that was used to program the key. It ws much longer than the ones listed above. Either you figure it out, or you have to drive.....
