rear wiper fluid refill

I am having a problem getting my rear wiper fluid to dispense. I hear the pump working and I have fluid in the reservoir because the front washer is working. The manual indicates that their is only one reservoir for both the front and rear wiper. Is that correct? If so it appears the hose may be detached. What else should I look for?

check for the rear squirter to be clogged. you can use a flat head screw driver to adjust it and turn it. Face it away from the veichle and use a small pin or needle to clean it out.

See you at the Dragon!

I believe there are two fluid tanks. There should be one on each side under the bonnet. Check it out, little oval caps.

I recently dismantled the area at the base of the rear wiper and cleaned out the pin hole that the fluid comes through ,helped alot. Also (and you will need another person for this)use a small std blade screw driver to correct any problem in aiming the flow to the rear window by turning the nozzle from the outside once you have it re-assembled.

The one on the driver's side is for the headlight washers.

Yes there are. One for the wipers front and back, and one for the headlight washers.

Where are you located, skier-clay? In weather below 20F, usually none of my wiper fluid jets work. I also find that the rear one craps out first and takes longer to come back to life.

The red wiper fluid works better in cold weather than blue wiper fluid, while you're trying to clean it out, might also want to switch to that if you don't use it already

This tends to happen a lot with icy conditions, a perpetually soaked boot while driving on wet roads and freezing. The water works it's way into the nozzle and freezes into a little plug, stopping the flow.

I have had success so far by dabbing a tiny bit of light grease around the nozzle. This repels the moisture somewhat and seems to have prevented further occuring of the freeze-up. Only the slightest amount is needed, enough to make the nozzle look 'shiny'. Renew this periodically in cold weather and you might lessen the chances of it happening again.

What year is your car?

The rear washer in my 02 MCS has failed twice. Dealer looked at it both times. The first time they cleaned the nozzle that's on the wiper arm. The second time I tried to do that myself at home. But even with the nozzle cover on the wiper arm popped open, the washer still wouldn't spray. This time the dealer reported that the rear washer assembly was clogged up with crud. They replaced some the washer motor and installed a 'new version' rear washer arm. The new arm looks a lot different than the original. I think that your dealer would install all of the new stuff if you take it in with that complaint.

I am in Charlotte NC. Not that cold, but plenty of wet weather that allows stuff to be thrown up on the rear window. Maybe something has clogged the nozzle. Thanks to everyone for the good feedback. I'll let you know what works.

My MCS is 2003. After repeated efforts using some of the above suggestions, I was not able to get the nozzle to work. Sounds like I will need to get the new arm assembly under warranty. Thanks for the comments.

Another potential problem is the water feed through the motor shaft.
If you flip up that end of the blade assembly (it will sort of *snap*
loose), you will see what appears to be a zerk-type fitting on the
end of the motor shaft. This snaps into the end of the blade assembly
you popped up. There is a small rubber grommet that fits into the
blade assmbly to seal the water flow. If it gets cocked, you will get
very little water flow. Insert the grommet squarely into the hole in the
wiper arm and then snap the end of the arm back onto the motor
shaft.

I had a similar problem recently after the dealer replaced my rear wiper
blade.

Hope this helps.

Peter...thanks for the heads up. I will check this tonight. Did you have any fluid leaking around the motorshaft that lead you to this discovery?

Nope, I just noticed it wasn't spraying properly. I thought the jet had gotten knocked out of alignment. It works properly again now.

Heated Wiper nozzels help out alot. Its kinda fun to see the steam come off of them in cold weather after a spray.
