3rd airbag light!
3rd airbag light!
I'm taking my car in on Monday for its 25,000 mile service. Coincidentally, my airbag light just came on last week - FOR THE THIRD TIME. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of this issue is that it has something to do with a connection inside the seats - a wiring harness or something like that. The airbag light even came on this time as I was moving the seat when vacuuming my car. So, I have two seats. Wait, let me check... yep, one, two. So, it seems to me that the airbag light coming on for a third time means that there's either a screwup on my dealer's part, or an ongoing problem that the dealer "fix" only puts off temporarily. I want to know what this BS is going to cost once I'm out of warranty.
Has anyone else had the airbag light come on more than twice? Randomly, not as a result of major mods to the car.

We have a very good friend back in VA that has had his in 6 times so far for the same airbag light issue. I believe at this point, they are STILL trying to figure out the problem.
Hopefully they will get yours fixed ASAP...

the air bag light is on in our cooper right now for the 3rd time. Forst time they replaced the connector, second time they said they couldnt find anything wrong and probably the fault wasnt cleared out from the first time. I am interested to see what the result is for the 3rd time.
Worst part is this is my kids car and I want the airbags functional when she is driving it.

My airbag light has come on three times. In fact, the last time it happened after I stopped into my dealer to get my MINI washed. When I pulled away, the light came on. Needless to say, after they fixed again, I told them that I do not want them to clean the inside of the MINI as I am now afraid that the light will go off again when they move the seat.

Dropped off my car this morning. I had them look back at the service records to see what was done the previous two times I've had my car in for this problem. Apparently the issue is some sort of wiring connection inside the front seats that comes loose, so there's a fix where the wires are soldered together permanently, so that moving the seat doesn't jar them loose. This was done for my passenger seat, but not yet for the driver's seat. The other airbag light was something to do with the passenger side seatbelt tensioner.
Needless to say, I asked them to hard wire the driver's seat, regardless of what was causing the airbag light to presently be on. I don't like the sound of this belt tensioner business. It sounds like more of an inherent flaw that's likely to rear its head post-warranty. I'll ask more questions when I pick up my car.
Sounds like hard-wiring both seats is a good thing to request before your car goes out of warranty! Who knows how much it would eventually cost you otherwise...

MINI offers extended warranty for side air bag
Today I got letter from MINI extending my warranty (10yrs/ 150,000 miles) for underseat electrical connections for the side airbag.
I already had the airbag dash light come on and go off that was fixed by the dealership- they said something was wrong with the seatbelt. Been ok since then.
The problem stated was-
a wiring harness connector for the side airbag and safety belt pretensioner had partially loosened... the increase in electrical resistance caused the airbag warning dash light to turn on.
MINI claims that the airbag and pre-tensioner should function even with the airbag light on. However anytime the airbag light goes on it is important to have it checked out by the dealership.
A sticky label was enclosed to be added to the Service and warranty book on page 25 under special programs.

I recieved this in the mail yesterday also with a paper extending my warranty (10yrs/ 150,000 miles) on the wiring harness connector for the side air bag and safety belt. So far I haven't had this problem though.
