Cooling Fan Specifications
Cooling Fan Specifications
I have replaced my fan assembly after a couple of years of using the "resistor bridging the fan relay" trick that I saw on this forum. I just drove the car (2009 R56 S) 300 miles and back in 80 degree heat and had no issues but I am not confident that the stage 1 fan ever comes on.
I was stuck in traffic at one point so turned the AC on max to kick on the stage 2 fan just in case but am wondering what the normal sequence is with fans coming on? Unless my new fan so quiet that I can't hear it (it IS new) I don't think it ever comes on. I have a new(ish) thermostat so theoretically the Temp sensor is good.
Can someone definitively say which fans should come on when? I love this car but not having a temperature gauge in the cabin is a massive design flaw in my opinion. I have a cheap Carly scan tool that I can monitor temps with but it is Oil Temp I think, not Coolant temp - but they may be on par with each other.

Here are the specs after looking for ages on other sites - Stage 1 fan operates at 214° F, switches to Stage 2 fan at 234° F and remains on high until the coolant temp drops by 7° F. Supposedly it also turns on when the AC is on and the AC system pressure reaches 8 bar (114 psi).
