Need new tranny....possible upgrade?
Well I got my MINI back with a new tranny
It is quiet again, not that it was real bad, well except the day the seal let go and a 3rd. of the tranny fluid leaked out.I have the same part number as you pxlmxr, but the dealership was closing up when I got there, and no one still there knew what the part number meant. Will phone tomorrow and talk to the tech.
But I'm glad thats over with.
Oh,my clutch looked great,not much wear,and I have 45K miles on it

Well I just found out that part number is for a Midlands.MINI CA only replaces the tranny with a Getrag if the fault is with the tranny itself. What happened to mine was the axle seal failed, due to extreme cold, letting tranny fluid leak out.Now by the time I got to the dealer that day I had lost about a 3rd. of the tranny fluid,so the tranny still worked, but all the metal filings floating around in there would have shortened its life span a lot.
I had no problems with the Midlands, and with the improved seals, things should be fine.I did get a new out of the box tranny, not a rebuild.

123-00-7-520-071 - so if anyone knows where I can look up that number to verify - that info would be appreciated.
The car feels brand new and is running quiet and awesome again.
And that friends- is my story.
If anyone is interested in knowing which dealership I was dealing with drop me a pm. They get my endorsement.

Installing a new clutch kit (clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing) is generally a good idea when you have the gearbox out of the car.
Of course, if it's a relatively new car, no need to put in new parts unless there's unusual wear on the old ones.
Maybe the dealer was trying to be professional, giving good advice. Not defending the dealer, but this is simply a good practice, in general.
Anyway, it's a moot point now for you! Good luck, drive well!
