Stuck Oil Filler Cap

Curious if anyone else has encountered the Oil Cap Filler ( on top of the Valve Cover on the R53) not wanting to screw off. The Stock cap is in place and normally the cap clicks alllowing you to rotate the cap once it is in place and snugeed up. Now no clicking is heard and the cap will not unscrew to allow oil to be topped off.

Curious if anyone has encountered this and how the "stripped" filler cap can be removed?

Replacement cap has been ordered

Any and all advice appreciated

I haven't run into this before, but since the two halves of the cap are just snapped together, you should be able to pry off the top half and then remove the bottom half from the valve cover with some vice grips/channel locks.
If you're worried about damaging the VC, then maybe try breaking the top half into pieces with some sort of implement of destruction to get to the bottom half.

Have you tried using a pair of Channel Lok pliers or a strap wrench to gain more leverage?

would remove the valve cover before going further, lest you break off a piece inside that finds its way somewhere it shouldn't; could be a real day ruiner. Throw in a new gasket while you're at it.

Had a similar situation occur with my gas cap on my '04.
I had to do what mrbean suggested as the locking cap actually split/broke when trying to unscrew it. A portion of the cap was stuck and would not budge.
I removed one split half and stuffed a rag in the opening before using a pair of channel locks to twist the rest of it off.

Hope you were successful.

Yes - The shame of it all; having to drive around with a rag stuffed into the fill opening for a week until the new cap arrived. So low class pedestrian like

This was a commonplace sight in the 1970s. Usually, because the cap had been left at the gas station and the owner not having gotten around to replacing it, OR fuel purloining specialists would not extend the courtesy of neatly replacing it before fleeing the scene. Good times in the Malaise Era.
