Anyone replace a front turn signal lens?

One of mine was taken out recently. Just looking for some details on parts and work involved. I'm assuming I have to remove the bumper to do this. Main questions is whether I need to replace the whole assembly or just the lens.

Any experience/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes you do need to take the front plastic bumper off. The bad news is you have to replace the unit. It comes as one piece. I can't remember what I paid when I replaced mine. Wasn't cheap of course. 35 or 55 bucks

Thanks, dpilgrim. Guess I'll be giving Classic a call. Hmm... what else do I "need"?

Just replaced mine last week (cracked lens).

Bought the unit from CLASSIC (around $25), and then got my local MINI mechanic to install it ($38), it was too much of a job for me.

$38 to install?!? Do you live in Romania? I'll check locally, bu I'm guessing that dealers in NorCal will be charging $150 minimum for this job.

Yeah, I replaced mine too.

My dealer at the time warrantied the part, and originally wanted to schedule a maintence visit. I asked them if I could just have the part and install it myself. They agreed.

The bumper cover is attached with fasteners in both wheel wells and across the bottom of the bumper cover. Then there are several wire harnesses you need to disconnect.

As I recall, the turn signal is held on with two screws accessible from the top (without removing the bumper cover), and ONE screw that is trapped until you remove the bumper cover.

The turn signal is one unit, that includes the plastic lens (mine cracked) and two light bulbs. If either of the bulbs or the lens go bad, you have to replace the whole thing.

It wasn't done at a MINI Dealer (I live 2 1/2 Hours away from the closest one), but by a local Mechanic who specializes in British sport cars, and who is very familiar with MINIs (and owns a few too!)
Sorry for the confusion...

DiD - You are right. The lens and housing is one unit, so if the lens cracks (both of mine did and I replaced both), you can't just replace the lens. But if you look at the assembly carefully, you will see that the bulbs ARE replaceable.

I didn't remove the bumpers, instead I went in behind the wheels. I'm not saying its the right way... but it works. Hope this helps.
