R53 hard start and idle chugging when car is warm.
Hi I had a question. I'm having an issue with my car.
I2003 mini cooper s r53. <original motor was a jcw, so it still has the jcw ecu.
Parts replaced.
Head job done.
all gaskets.
15% pulley, Belt and crankpulley
Oil pump
Cam, crank, coolant temp, knock and map sensors
fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump and sending unit
Header and 2 new o2 sensors.
btv bypass and purge solenoid.
plugs,, wire and coil pack.
stage 2 clutch and flywheel
Charcoal canister and dmtl pump
and more stuff can't remember right now.
Also I don't get a check engine light at all. It happens at cold start and idle. I notice I have a hard start issue and then after driving for a while I notice at idle the car start hunting or chugging until I give the throttle a small blip and it's back to normal. It also happens as soon as I get out my driveway, on to the street it has a slight lean to if I leave it parks liked that and leave it running it starts chugging.
I notice when I did a pressure test I'm getting around 41 psi or 40 psi at idle not 42 or 43 psi I see others say they have. But the problem is that when I leave the pressure tester on for 20 or 30 mins the pressure only rises almost to 56 or 55psi sometimes. So there is alot of pressure in the tank
And I see on the forums that allllllloooootttttt of people are dealing with this issue and still haven't fixed it. 😐
I noticed today when I went to get some gas <only two bars on gas gauge> that I heard a sort of fart noise when I removed the gas cap.
And lastly I've been doing some research and I see that the fuel tanks breather line has a fuel vapor separator which has a roll over valve inside of it. Has anyone ever heard of this valve or this issue. i have also heard it could be that the fuel feed or return could be bad.
😒 <at my wits end>.
Here are some pics of the roll over valve and fuel vapor separator.
