HELP Unichip

Does this mean I can let the dealer do the "required by DMV" upgrade to my MCS that has the Unichip without any damage/need to remove Unichip before up grade or what??

From Randy Webbs info:

"This unit is a plug and play harness with a piggyback computer that allows us to change the performance parameters with extreme density, resulting in great power gains. The other bonuses are triple map availablility - stock, street gas, and race gas, driver function such as water injection, intercooler sprayer, or CO2 sprayer, and no interference if the dealer flashes your stock ECU. The unit is guaranteed to make more power than any other system on the market. We have developed 13 different maps for the most common performance modifications, including the JCW car."

Any help, in plain English, would be appreciated. My MCS is sitting at the dealer now and they say it is required??

Thanks in advance.

Earl

Hi Earl, What I did was disconnect the harness fron the ecu when I had V.39.2 downloaded. I then reconnected it in the parking lot and drove home.

Remember that the Unichip is a piggyback chip. What this means is thaat it will intercept signals from the engine ecu and replace it with it's own program.

Cheers,

MeanGRN,

Thanks, I have a call into the dealership for the mechanic to call me before starting work. I'm going to ask him to take the Unichip out of the loop flash it and up it back when done Hope he will do it without any problem.

I just got my 2003 MCS back from the dealer for the ECU upgrade (some sort of emissions recall). I left the unichip installed, and the tech said he had no problem with the reflash of the ecu. He said that the Unichip did not effect the upgrade, and does not hurt the unichip.

BMW Motorwerks in Minneapolis seems to be fine with the aftermarket upgrades - I have the pulley, unichip, alta intake, magnaflow exhaust, nology wires, denso plugs, and oil catch can. The only problem I had was that they could not perform the recall on the pcv valve hose since I have the oil catch can. Actually, the tech said that the oil catch can hoses were much better than what the factory installed!

I called Unichip directly and asked them that exact same question. They told me the reflash will not affect the chip and it doesn't need to be disconnected either.
