I am looking to do my timing chain. I do not want to buy the Chinese junk that will not work or spend $200 on tools I will use maybe only once.

Does someone have a set of Schwaban timing tools for the R56 for sale or willing to lend?

 

Where are you located? I just replaced the timing chain and related bits on my 2010 Clubman S. I went with the Detroit tuned high-quality timing chain kit, so that I wouldn’t have to worry about ever having to fix it again (hopefully). But for the tools I got a cheap, but well rated set off Amazon. I had to grind off a little bit of one of the tools to get it to clear the turbo, but other than that they worked perfectly. If you’re anywhere near Seattle you’re welcome to borrow my kit. I just checked on Amazon and the exact kit I bought is out of stock and they don’t know when or if they’ll have it again. So my personal suggestion is to look on Amazon and find a cheap set and read the reviews to see what others say about it and then buy that. There were a few on Amazon when I was looking originally that looked good until I read the reviews.

Also, if I remember correctly Detroit Tuned will rent the high quality tool sets to you for a fee. Worth checking out if you don’t want to go with a cheap set.



Thats what the set I bought looks like, and that’s what I had to grind off to get it to clear the turbo.

 

We have the schwaben tools on sale if you cant find a set. What some people do is buy it then do a couple jobs on their local MINI club to make up for it. Or loan it out to the club members in their area. Just watch out of those other tool sets as sometimes they are missing the tools needed.

Only too we rent right now is the wheel spacer test kit.
