New updated oil canister on earlier model oil housing?
New updated oil canister on earlier model oil housing?
This is going to be my first oil change that I will do myself and hopefully not the last. My main delimma is that I have a 2002 R50 that has a cage in the oil canister. I found this out by researching the part number and visual inspection of the canister top. I purchased the only available oil filter fom MANN for my car and it is obviously the newer common type filters with the cage already inserted. So it was suggested by Pelican Parts to just purchase a newer updated oil canister which I did. Before I attempted to install however, I did some searching and found out that there were problems with seating the new cover on the old housing. I really don't want to spend an extra $260 just to put in this new type of filter! I am wanting to know if anyone has just used the old style with the new filter by just using the spring and NOT the cage. If that is not the case then will the new oil canister that I purchased fit on the old housing without giving any future issues down the line I.E. low oil pressure? I am in need of assistance for sure and I need to have this oil changed this weekend since I have had over a couple of years worth of old filter still on the car.
