I couldn't get the oil filter canister off

I was changing my oil for the first time since the 10k service and the dumb tiremonkey in the dealership torqued the filter canister down so hard that I couldn't get it off. Even with all my weight behind it, the thing just wouldn't budge. The first time I took it off after 5000 miles it only took light pressure to get it off. I gave up after about 15 minutes and just put the oil in. I hope the filter will still be good till my 25k service becuase there's really no way I can change it (without breaking something). Oh well.

Lets hope the tiremonkey didn't CROSSTHREAD the canister on and just cranked it down with all his wieght! Now that's a problem. If you take the car back and have them take it off, it will be their problem........Just as long as they do not try to lay the blame on you! Remember..the canister is very easy to crossthread and only made of aluminum!

I believe I'd be making a trip back to the dealer and have them check it out. The canister shouldn't be that tight.

The same thing happened to me after the 10K service. Take it back to the dealer to loosen the canister.

Dealer should and can help you.

Just wondering if you tried using a breaker bar (hollow pipe over the end of you wrench) to give you additional leverage. No, you shouldn't have to with these filters, but may help if you do try it again yourself. Also, could try it on both a hot and cold engine to see if it helps either way.
Breaker bars have helped me many of times on other items, and it's amazing what a difference it can make.
