Code 2C01 HPFP - sign of impending failure? and other stuff

Hello all,

2011 Cooper S with 62.5k miles 6MT named "Barry the Cooper"

Firstly, I've searched for this code and read several threads that mentioned it. Yesterday, got a CEL on my commute to work and thought I had a slight loss of power but the car did seem to keep up ok with traffic at 50-60mph. Once parked I cycled the engine off and on but the CEL returned. Heading out about 9 hours later the CEL was on for a few minutes then went off and car seemed normal all the way home - even got up to 5.5krpm at one point without issue - whew.

Once home pulled the code and got 2C01 "Fuel pressure too low" Ahh the dreaded and not uncommon HPFP saga.

My questions are:
1) The CEL cleared itself (code still stored), is this a one off or indicates that the HPFP is going?

2) The car's in service date is 12/17/2010 so I have just over 2 months to get a dealer to replace it under the recall. Is dealer going to do this based on that code or give me the runaround? I'll give them a call and see what they say, but some advice from the forum of others' experience could be useful.

I checked fuel pressure today with the scan tool and it was fine at idle (5MPa) at went to about 7MPa with a blip up to 3k (I think - I haven't done this before and was fiddling with the settings).

I have 7 days of commuting left before I can return to my preferred public transport mode so I just need to get through this.

The MINI HPFP for N18 is now very expensive. The equivalent PSA version seems unavailable at present. Someone on the forum seems to have had success at rebuilding one.

2 other questions while here.
In side the car one of the noises it makes is a steady low errrrrrrrr sound, but only when moving. It seemed more pronounced once the weather got warmer. I got the car last Sept so my first driving was going into winter and short local drives where I don't really recall this noise. I've been commuting in it since April and it's more noticeable at lower speeds and gets drowned out by all the other noises at higher speeds. Is this just a normal MINI sound? I'll try to record it.

Brake squeak? When I arrive at work after 17.5 miles and 40+ traffic signals I often hear a series of sharp squeaks while traversing the underground parking garage with window down. It occurs only while moving but doesn't have a steady frequency as in say once per wheel rotation. Could this be a hot brake pad making contact with the disc? The car was on the parking brake for about 3 weeks in July while I wrestled with changing the drive belt and I'm told this isn't always good. Previous owner replaced back brakes because car was parked up for some time prior to sale with little to no usage and said her mechanic had said the rear brakes had seized. I don't recall this sound before my adventure into drive belt and friction wheel change. I don't hear it when returning home but that is late at night and the brakes get less of a workout that way.

Oh and bad news. Poor Barry got Crumped in the back by some utter a*&#^%# who rammed me after pulling up behind at a traffic signal and then promptly drove off. Hatch all bent in and bumper scuffed and cracked but luckily no lights were damaged. I'd been looking at dash cam options but hadn't decided on which one to get ... guess that horse has bolted.

grumpily

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Anyone seen a High Pressure Fuel Pump related code that went away quite quickly (and maybe never returned)? Car has been driving fine since the code with about 100miles put on it.

cheers
