N14 low oil presure in head
N14 low oil presure in head
Hi im having an issue with a 2010 cooper S n14 that has low/no oil pressure in head
Owner of the car told me an other shop removed the pan 6months ago and chain guide debris where there ... Told the gentlemen he needed an engine ... He drove off
He kept on driving since the light goes away when you give very little throttle
Decided to bring it to me for second opinion ( 6 months later )
1st oil presure test ... cold start around 30psi at oil pressure switch port in head
Pressure slowly drop as temperature rises
Drops below 5psi above 100degres C at idle and bearly makes it to 10psi at 3000rpm
Installed a new oil filter cap ... Oil pressure test again same result
Drop the pan to check for debris ... Nice and clean in there .. no signs of any debris what so ever
Oil Pump was replaced
Pretty much same result still no pressure in head
Tapped the old oil filter cap to test pressure in the bottom end ... Pressure is fine in the bottom
70psi on cold start
26psi at 99C at idle
For some reason i dont find the lifters loud for this little pressure in the head
Next step is to remove valve cover to inspect head
Any of you guys ever got a similar issue?
Im thinking
- Worn cam journal
- Blocked oil port
Any other suggestions?
Heres a couple of videos
Thanks

so his timing chain guide started to go, I would check on that guide system and timing chain, and also look into the oil pump chain. Then like you said look at the channels, and see if with inspection they appear clear. Its interesting to say the least, I will be watching this to see the outcome at the end.
