Valve rattle

I rebuilt the motor on my 2011 MCS with the N18 motor. It starts and idles fine but when I start to gently get on the throttle I here the valves rattling away. This is the second head because the previous owner blew a hole in the #2 piston and cylinder wall and pretty much melted everything attached to the motor! I bought the car REALLY CHEAP. I have replaced everything that has to do with the vanos system except for the actuator cam!. I have timed and re timed the cams several times. Oil pressure is good. Compression is 180 psi across all cylinders. I had a friend do the adaptations through Auto Logic. He is a BMW, Mini, Rover and Mercedes mechanic with his own shop and he's at a loss. He suggested that the new vacuum pump could be binding so I gutted a spare and put it on and still no bueno. The bottom end was redone by a local machine shop that has done several cars for me. He checked the "new" head and it was good to go.

Any suggestions besides having it stolen....

Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have an '06 R53 that I rebuilt.
