09 R56 Mini cooper S check engine light Code

I just bought 09 mini cooper s with 65K miles and It has check engine light on. I plugged in bluetooth OBD scanner and found out those codes below.
The previous owner told me it heats up sometimes but while I was driving, i didn't notice it's overheating and temp was okay. (I checked coolant temp with obd tool since it doesn't show on dash) he said it would be water pump or thermostat. when i got home and pop the hood after I turned it off, I could hear some kind of water falling noise around bottom of coolant reservoir area which would be thermostat (i guess?)
I believe P0300 - P0304 would be ignition coil and spark plugs but I am wondering what P173B would be. Please advise.

The P173B code means "CAN (Controller Area Network) Engine Coolant Temperature Invalid". My best guess for this code is that the wrong wire is plugged into your temperature sensor that's located on your thermostat. I seem to remember that there are two plugs at the end of the pigtail right there (I have an '09 MCS) and you can get them switched when plugging them back in if you're ever doing any work right there. I'd check that first. Sorry I can't be more specific. It's been a couple of years since I was doing work right there, so I'm just spouting off from my admittedly fuzzy memory.
If you find that they have been switched, inspect both the plug(s) and the sockets for any damage from having the plugs switched. You may find that you have to replace something, or you may find that you just need to switch them back.

As far as your misfires go, remember that you need air, fuel, and spark. it's unlikely that all 4 spark plugs or all four ignition coils have failed simultaneously (but not impossible). If you suspected electrical, I would look for something that affected all 4 cylinders. Other causes could be a vacuum leak, dirty MAF sensor, O2 sensors, fuel pressure from the HPFP or fuel rail, dirty injectors, carbon buildup in intake manifold, etc.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Thank you so much for the reply. I think I know which wires you are talking about. I watched youtube and they stated two sensor connector would look similar so people plug in to wrong one. I researched that one is oil pressure sensor and but I'm not sure about the other one. I have low oil pressure light on when idling. that might be it 🤞.

for sure with a 300 and 304 start with plugs and coils. But only go with original MINI coils as we have had many issues with aftermarket

Same with your thermostat fault go with an original MINI thermostat as the aftermarkets are not reliable and for the amount of work it's not worth saving $20-40 to do it again.

and replace the coolant pipe with the thermostat as you have to have the thermostat off to get the pipe out
