Clearing Adaptations

Has anyone used the Creator 110 or c310 tool to clear out the engine adaptations? Interested to know how this is done. Changed out my head and I'm told I will need to do this. The Creator menu doesn't exactly have a line that says "clear adaptations".

Adaptations -- like long term fuel trims -- can be cleared by clearing a DTC. Even if there is not an active one the command to clear the DTC also resets adaptations like long term fuel trims to their defaults. It also resets all readiness monitors to their incomplete state. The engine controller will then work its way through the readiness monitor tests as the engine runs, as the car is driven.

With some cars there can be a relearn procedure needed to in the case of a cam/cam tone ring change. Not sure what needs to be relearned but OBD2 test equipment for this particular model of car offers this feature. Not sure BMW/MINI cars require this.

A good old battery disconnect can also clear adaptations. However, I detest messing the battery and its connections unless required. However, I do not believe it will result in a relearn (if the engine/engine controller even supports this function).

Last but not least the engine controller adapts as the engine runs. In a few cases with other cars but after nothing really major I've just started the engine and then drove the car and let the engine adapt. Unless the adaptation is so far off the engine won't run -- which I've yet to encounter -- you can consider this. But if something more sophisticated like a relearn is needed I doubt a battery disconnect will cause this to be done.
