class action?
class action?
i have a 2010 cooper s with less than 70,000 miles on it timing chain broke causing engine failure i know there was a class action done a while back but for some reason 2010s where not included. i am considering trying to get another one going since i know there are a lot of folks with this issue and i dont see why the consumer should pay $8,000 for a new engine when bmw knew the part was defective and never recalled it. any thoughts would be appreciated
The timing chain broke because the vacuum pump seized. And it seized because of oil starvation. Is this the case?
not sure if they will cover it under this scenario but you can always call them for options.
you might be able to save the engine. I had a 2011 N18 engine with a broken chain. I replaced the vacuum pump and timing chain. Luckily, the valves were fine and the car ran fine afterwards.
your issue is finding a mechanic who's willing to do these repairs with a fair price. Even if you had to pull the head, it shouldn't be that crazy expensive.

Yes. On the non s, it is only for the brake system/clutch. On the S it is also for the turbo. These tend to seize if oil starved.

Not the intake. There are two lines coming out of the vacuum pump. A hard line goes to the brake booster and another soft hose goes to a valve. The valve is connected to a canister and to the diverter valve on the turbo.
