Crank seal special tool needed??

I have a crank seak that just started to leak. Do i need to buy the special tool to install? I found a knock off on ebay for 99 bucks looks just like the mini 1 i saw for 150. But could i just buy a cheaper set of universal seal installers or just use a piece of pvc pipe to install i dont wana damage the seal or have it leak in 10k miles because of a rolled lip. anyone whos done this vefore your expierence would be a great help thanks!

Is there any upgrade for the stock harmonic ballemcer? I see sum for the r53s. But nothin for the n18 r56s i figure if its coming off and i can upgrade y not. It may need to be replaced anyway if the rubber is oil soaked anyway and sweet id rather get the tool from a reliable company since i never heard of the ebay tool company.

Also just a thought im goin through belts like every 15 to 20 k they get wierd ware and start to squeel any inputs on if that could be a bad harmonic ballencer. When the timing chain was done all the accessories were replaced and a new alternator within 6 months all seem fine just thought its wierd this keeps happening.

I installed mine with a dead-blow hammer. Just be careful when tapping it into place.

I used a similar size white plastic plumbing tube. I’m sure ECS has the perfect tool that will make it easier, but what I used worked for me. A few recommendations: Don’t scratch the surface while removing the old one. It can be a bit tricky. Clean the surface, oil the new seal liberally and make sure you fit it consistently around the circumference and you will be fine. Also, replace your serpentine belt at the same time if it needs to be done. Give all the other pulleys a spin when the belt it off to check their bearings. Make sure your crank pulley is in good shape or just replace it while you have it out. I think on the S’s there is some issue with the rubber center or something. The E10 bolts can be sticky... an impact wrench saved my day. Most importantly - have fun!!

About those E10 bolts. Possibly installed with loctite, Mine were difficult to get out. Maybe should have tried heat to break loose.

Installed new bolts, did not use loctite. They started to back out a few days later. Removed and used loctite, still in there.
