Getrag 6spd worn Input shaft ate my clutch teeth!

First time Mini Owner. Bought an 07 MCS with 65k miles on it. The timing chain and HPFP have been done. I just fixed all the typical oil leaks and fixed the A/C compressor connector pin which was causing a disconnect and no A/C. An Indy mechanic never checked the connector and wanted $3800 to replace the A/C system.

last week the clutch went out. Figured ok, somebody beat on it and clutch wore out. I shopped local mechanics and received quotes from 3300-4500. I wound up at a place I’ve had good luck with before for $1600, with me purchasing the clutch kit and DMF from FCP Euro. Anyhow they called and I went over this morning to see something I’ve never seen before. The input shaft had chewed the teeth off the clutch. Clutch was in great shape. We tried the new clutch on the input shaft and there is a lot of play on the input shaft teeth. Wondering if anyone has experienced this before? I’ve never seen it and can’t find any posts anywhere for that issue. The shop couldn’t find anyone local who would service the gear box and suggested a new gear box for a replacement cost of $6100 installed.

Anyhow a used 2009 Clubman S gear box for $450, is on its way to be swapped in. Welcome any advice or comments, curious if anyone has experienced the Input shaft wearing our the gear teeth of the clutch before. Any suggestions of preventative maintenance while they have the whole motor and trans out? Recall Timing chain and HPFP have been done and I addressed the usual oil leaks for the filter housing, vacuum pump, and oil cooler. I’m thinking I have them throw a new serpentine belt on. Easy access right now.
