brake pad sensor accuracy?
brake pad sensor accuracy?
The light went off so I jacked the car up, took the wheels off and had a nice look around. Fronts have at least 40% and rears over 50% life left in them. So is the light supposed to go off this early or is there a sensor malfunction?
BTW, car is an '04 S with just over 16,000 miles on it. Almost all driving has been city with canyon runs about once a month or so.

zamirz, I recently helped a friend change brake pads for the same reason. What we noticed after taking the caliper off the car was that the inside pads (pad piston pushes on) were worn more than the outside pads by half.
So be sure to check the inside ones.

james, thanks for the heads up, I'll look at the inners more closely.
pocketrocket, the light is the yellow circular one in the speedo and shows a circle with 3 white dashes on each side.

The light should only go off if the sensor itself has physically been worn (and then it must be replaced). It slides into the pad, and can easily be slid out to check, or seen from the contact side of the pad.
