Radiator and Cooling System
Radiator and Cooling System
OK! So I've searched high and low and can;t seem to find ANY info on teh cooling system ? ?
Some questions I have are:
Some questions I have are:- Where is the radiator cap? Is there even one?
- How do you refill the radiator?
- How would you go about doing a complete system flush and refill?
The 'radiator cap' is not on the radiator, but on the right side of the engine (MC) or on the recovery/surge tank on the firewall (MCS). These caps perform the same pressure relief functions as a traditional radiator cap, and are where the coolant gets filled.
Topping off the 'radiator' is the same procedure as you would a traditional setup, open the cap and inspect the level, adding as necessary. THe recovery bottle should be filled to the 'cold' level.
Flushing the system is a bit more involved, since there is no radiator drain provided.
Loosen and remove the lower radiator hose to drain the system. Refilling involves filling the coolant through the 'radiator cap' that applies to your particular model after loosening an air bleed screw in the upper radiator hose (MCS) or near the valve cover (MC). Fill till the coolant appears at the bleed screw, then close it, start the engine momentarily, stop it and repeat the bleed and fill. Once the bleed no longer shows air, fill the surge tank to the cold level and start and warm up the engine. Put the heater on it's hottest setting when doing this. Check to make sure the system is totally filled and purged of air and you are done.
