I just had my second power steering pump failure, I originally did the first replacement probably 5 years ago before the big recall, but then got BMW to reimburse me at the time. The car is a 2003 R53 with 144K miles, so it doesn't fall into any 13 year, 130,000 mile warranty.

I'd read or been told that it is a lifetime recall but I can't find that anywhere else, so I suspect it isn't correct. However if BMW will fix it free of charge obviously I want to go that route rather than skinning my knuckles fixing it again myself!

 

The recall only applies to the original pump.
