MCS R56 N18 Pinging

Hi Guys I wonder if any of you came across the issues I seem to be having with my 2010 MCS N18 ENGINE.

I took the car to my mechanic to overhaul the entire engine.

These are the things if changed in the car thus far.
1. fuel tank pump brand new from Mini dealer
2. High Pressure fuel pump brand new from mini dealer.
3. cyclinder head done and new value stem seals put in.
4. Vanos gear.
5. complete timing chain with guides etc.
6. oil cooler.
7. oil pump from mini
8. complete bottom end. e.g... rings bearings.. big ends etc.

These are most of the things iv bought for the car.. there are a few others things I think I might have missed out..
my point is the entire engine was removed sent to engineers like the cylinder head etc. and everything was put back together.

the car just runs horrible at the moment.
the cold start is erratic.. it's has a funny noise on the cold start.

if you switch off the engine and start up again.. the funny sound goes away.

has like a small miss fire..and ojnhigh revs or on an incline .. the car like PINGS..

Mechanic says the Value cover PVC is an issue.. I beg to differ.

the car did 7000km since the engine has been done up..

Car does not pick up and Error Codes...NOTHING COMES UP..

Guys any idea what could be the problem..

And lastly are these Mini's really that troublesome?

With no codes (using a BMW standard reader) I would start with a compression test of the cylinders. AN oil pressure test just for checking. I would also want my timing checked using the correct locking tool for the N18 cams. Start there.

Start with timing as Scudder44 said. also, 2010 Mini S has N14 not N18, at least in that is the case in USA.

compression can be deceiving. I just bought a mini that had bad pick up and acceleration. I did compression and the numbers are close to 200 psi. I checked the timing, and sure enough, it was 180 opposite!!!
