I've recently posted a thread about this issue with no solid answer, I've confirmed that my car was built post 03/2012 so it has the newest hpfp however all of my symptoms (misfires, backfires, cel and stumble/stalling) are all pointing in the direction that I need a new hpfp.

I have a jb+ and aem cai in the car if that changes anything. Ive noticed that it only acts up on cold days also.

Have their been many claims of the newer Bosch hpfps failing?

 

How many miles on the car?
What codes are set?
Have you changed the plugs, and if so with what?
Have you tried disconnecting the JB+?

I haven't heard of any failures on the new pump, doesn't mean it can't happen though. Suggestions:

1) Check realoem.com with your VIN to be sure you have the new Bosch HPFP,
2) check the fuel pressure with your favorite scan tool
3) it could be ignition related, so a scan for whatever codes are set will help narrow down the problem.

 

The car has approximately 78000kms on it. These are the codes I got from a local shop:

2EFF: COMBUSTION MISFIRE, CYLINDER 1
2F02: COMBUSTION MISFIRE, CYLINDER 4
2BE9: CYLINDER INJECTION CUT-OUT: PRESSURE TOO LOW
2C01: HIGH PRESSURE FUEL, PLAUSIBILITY PRESSURE TOO LOW

The spark plugs and ignition coils were replaced at the BMW dealer I bought the car from September of last year.

I first encountered the issue a few months before I put in the jb+ however the intake was in when it first occurred. I think its unlikely that the intake would have anything to do with it though.

I would do three things before spending any money. Compression test, oil pressure test and timing chain stretch measurement at that mileage.

 

If you are getting low fuel pressure warnings, triple check that you have the latest fuel pump. 3/12 was the changeover date, but doesn’t mean your has one...

Hmm I didnt think about the timing chain or compression of the engine. Do you think it could possibly be that either of the two are wearing and the cold weather shrinks/expands them to cause these issues?

 

Best option for an inexpensive code reader is an OBD2 <-> Bluetooth adapter (under $20) and the Torque app ($5) on an Android phone. Lots of threads on that.
