HEELPPP!! (Clutch)
Hey everyone! I could seriously use some help! So I brought in my MINI to a MIllex transmission (who had great reviews on yelp) after getting quotes from several places for a clutch replacment. Each place was within a few dollars of each other so I figured the transmission place was my best bet to get my car in and out since they work on transmissions all day every day. Well..... my guess was serverly wrong. Two weeks later.... At first he (the owner) told me they have a mechanic who used to work for MINI and the mechanic said that they shouldn't do an aftermarket flywheel because MINIs are very sensitive to innocorrect machining of the flywheel so to warentee the job they had to order the flywheel from MINI, okay fine. Significally more expensive but fine. Then a couple days later I hear from the owner that they ordered the wrong diameter clutch 8" instead of 11" that my car needed. Again more expensive. Waiting wait waiting for it to come in, finally it came in and guess what the drill holes are wrong. I just got a call from him saying that they ordered a new clutch from MINI, more expensive. 1. He didnt even ask me if that was okay to order the more expensive clutch from MINI 2. Im really starting to think Im getting taken advantage of now. Of course my area of knowlege is everything about my car except for the clutch. So PLEASE someone with knowledge help! Am I getting screwed over???
PS I have a 2012 R56 CooperS

Is the car driveable? If so, I would take it somewhere else. The clutch job isn't that difficult on a Mini. If you know what you are doing, you can get it done in 4 hrs. I believe the book time is 6 hrs. The flywheel doesn't always have to be replaced unless it is out of spec when examined. In my experience, the flywheel doesn't have to be Mini stamped but should be OEM, same with the clutch kit. I try to find the OE manufacturer and buy that (ie Luk, Sachs, etc) instead of the marked up Mini part. ECS Tuning website is your friend.

Get your car and go somewhere else as this is all crap. MINI doesn't have options to order the disk by size, and if they ordered and original MINI kit you order it by VIN and it would be the right one the first time.
We offer the complete kit here.

Find your local MINI club and find out where someone else has had a good experience with getting a clutch as you for sure aren't the first.
