Knocking/rattle coming from engine

OK so I have a knock/rattle the starts randomly usually after driving for a bit and lasts for about a minute or two before going away again. Its sounds consistant and climbs and lowers with the rpm. My car has 59k miles but has been driven quite hard in the past. What could this be? it seems to be coming from the engine itself.
I have an 03 MCS

UPDATE: So the oil was low and I had to add a quart to get it where it should be. I have a hunch that the place that changed my oil may not have put in enough but idk. Is burning 0.5-1.0qt normal for 2k+ miles of hard driving?? Im guessing low oil was the reason for the ticking noise.

Reads like it is time to get a mechanic's stethoscope and probe the engine at various locations to determine where the noise is coming from. Once you know that then what the noise might be is (maybe) easier to diagnose.

Noise doesn't have to be coming from inside the engine either. Could be coming from outside the engine. Could be a noisy water pump or accessory drive, idler roller bearing, tensioner roller.

With another car a converter made a low volume dull knocking sound when cold and buzzed like a loosely nailed tin roof in a tornado when hot.

Is it a high or low pitch knock? Is it fast or slow? 1/2 to 1 qt in 2000 is quite a bit. It’s definitely burning oil somwhere. The knock could be lifters, piston slap or rod knock.

When oil was low it was slower and low pitched knocking, but after I filled the oil back up it turned into a faster quiter higher pitched knocking/tapping.
I'm you go to r53 hatch talk I posted a YouTube video of what it sounds like now

Listened to the video. Sounds like it may be timing chain guide.
