2005 MCS - 6spd Auto (Aisin TF60SN/09G) - Flexplate Cracked
Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
They just crack from stress and use. It’s not uncommon to see it on any engine that has one including V8s. It’s called a flex plate because it’s suppose to flex. Anything that flexes enough will eventually crack. If all your converter bolts were in place and tight I wouldn’t be worried. You can try buying a good quality plate to avoid it in the future.
Believe discovered root-cause of flexplate crack -- likely misalignment by the previous owners (non mini) shop that replaced automatic transmission about 10-15k miles ago. As I've removed transmission -- I've discovered many things this shop did wrong when reassembling -- the latest is that as started to put all back together -- discovered missing alignment dowels! Without these dowels -- I'm betting alignment was off far enough that ultimately flexplate cracked.
