Ok, so I know i'm not supposed to let my car idle for long periods of time, but currently i'm having issues putting my baby to sleep, and the car seems to work for her. It looks like this issue is pretty common reading the posts, but i'm hoping for some diagnostic help.
It's a 2011 Countryman S w/ 75k miles
I pulled the plugs and plug 4 had some oil on it and the coil looked a little discolored on the outside, a yellowish hue.
I ran a compression test on the cylinders and cylinders 1, 2 and 3 were 210, and cylinder 4 was 195. I added some oil to cylinder 4 and compression went up to 210.
There is oil on the top of valve cover and also on the outside of the hose on the right (breather maybe).
There is also oil on the inside of the breather hose. Not sure if that's normal or not.
Sometimes it smokes in the morning, but almost definitely it smokes after a long idle, right when I pull away and for about a minute afterward.
I figured it's either a piston ring, valve seals or possibly the valve cover / pcv. I checked the turbo and there didn't seem to be any play.
Any tips or suggestions on next steps for testing?
That plug doesn't look like its got oil on it.
The valve cover pcv is letting full engine vacuum into the crankcase. Quick check is to remove the oil fill cap while idling and see if there is a vacuum on it. Quick fix is eBay diaphragm for 20 bucks or so shipped from Russia.
Only other usual problem is the valve seals, they are usually toast by 80,000 miles. long idle and bad valve seals always equals smoke.
