IPNA issues

For some reason I can connect to my r53 with no issues but when I try to read my daughters R56 I get the can not identifying. My guestion is do I need to the switch over on my cable. My cable has a switch installed to ground out pin 7 and 8 and I have to use that to get it to read my r53, Is the R56 different?
